This guy didn’t think this through…
By Marc • Dec 10th, 2004 • Category: the GeekJim Hu posted on CNET’s wifi blog that everyone should open up their WiFi access so their neighbors could leech off it. But, what happens when my neighbor fires up Kazza and downloads every Madonna song ever recorded? I’ll tell you what will happen, my IP address will end up as a “John Doe” on one of the entirely too frequent RIAA lawsuits you see filed every couple of months. No sir, I don’t like it. Plus, their use of my bandwidth might cause me to update my blog even slower……And we can’t have that now can we???? Someone also made the point in the talkback for the blog that it would probably violate your terms of service with your ISP. Of course this might be a good thing for me anyway. I’ve been wanting to switch back to Road Runner from DSL. If my DSL provider decided to cut me off, then I wouldn’t have to pay the early disconnect fee.
HM…..*watch as the gears start working in Marc’s head*….
