Comment Spam makes the news again….

By Marc • Dec 19th, 2004 • Category: the Geek, the Site

I just read this article over at Netcraft’s news site. I got it from a link off Slashdot. It talks about the problem of comment spam and how a lot of hosting providers are disabling Movable Type. Apparently comment spam is a much bigger problem with MT than it is with WP because of the way MT handles the scripting for comments. Too many hits to the comment script for MT can overload the resources on a server, affecting anyone else using that server for hosting. This is a big problem. I’m glad that using the Trencaspammers plugin for WP seem to have stopped the actual posting of comment spam here at thicke.org dead in it’s tracks. Looking at connections though, it looks like the jerks are still trying.
