The UN calls the US ’stingy’…

By Marc • Dec 28th, 2004 • Category: In Other News....

Some guy in the UN’s humanitarian relief agency has called the US’s pledge to send $15 million in aid “stingy”. While this figure does seem a modest sum considering the wealth of the US, I’m sure this figure will increase as the government assesss the need. Meanwhile here in the US, the various charities that raise funds, collect needed goods and work logistics for an effort to help people affected by such a tragedy more than make up for any shortfall in what our government has provided. I doubt if he should really be calling a nation whose people donate money out of their own pockets the way most Americans do as “stingy”. Heck, Scrappleface readers alone have donated almost $1400. There’s no telling how much other efforts have raised. I think Mr. Egeland should be a lot more careful in choosing his words next time. Would he rather see all this money from private contributions, or or would he rather all American aid money just come from the government?

Be sure to include these people affected in your prayers please.
