Firefox config bandwagon

By • Dec 31st, 2004 • Category: the Geek

Everyone else is blogging about it, so why shouldn’t I? I saw this first about a week ago. Now it’s cropping up on every tech savvy blog and news site out there. Click on more to see what you do to make Firefox a faster browser…….

IMPORTANT!!!! This should only be done by folks on a broadband connection. Folks who are on dial up might actually see a decrease in performance.

In the address bar, type “about:config” (without the quotes). The page it opens up with have a list of config options. There are three we’re going to change and one we will add.

First, change these two options to true, “network.http.pipelining” and “network.http.proxy.pipelining”. To change these options to true, just double click on them.

Next find the “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” option and change it to 30. You do this by double clicking on the option and entering 30 in the dialog box that appears.

Finally, we need to add new option. You do this, just right click on a blank area on the page. You should get a menu. Select New then Integer. In the dialog box that appears, give option the name “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and a value of “0″ (both without the quote of course).

Close the page and your done. You should notice an improvement immediately.
