The best BBQ is not in Memphis???
By Marc • Mar 18th, 2005 • Category: Marc, River CityI know I’m probably going to get in a lot of trouble for this, but here goes. I have a new favorite BBQ place. It’s a chain and they don’t have a location in Memphis. It’s Famous Dave’s. I think the problem with Memphis is that you basically have to kinds of BBQ places. You have the real nice places like Corky’s and the Rendezvous. But the problem with them is that the BBQ is just not all that good. On the other hand, you’ve got the hole in the wall places like (my personal favorite) the BBQ Shop and Neely’s that are real good. But……Well, you know how those hole in the wall places are when it comes to be a comfortable place to eat. Sometimes you have to really search to figure out where the health department inspection results are, if you know what I mean. Well, this place has really good food and a great atmosphere. I loved all the food I had, with the exception of the cornbread. But that was because they serve sweat cornbread and I don’t like sweet cornbread. They also had a variety of really good sauces at the table too. There was one, I don’t remember the name (mustard something) that was really good with the french fries. If you’ve never been there and get a chance to stop by, do it!
