Indiana Jones IV - The wraith of Alzheimers

By Marc • May 31st, 2005 • Category: Pop Culture, the Weirdo

It looks like they’re really serious about making a new Indiana Jones movie with Harrison Ford playing the lead. No word yet on how they’re going to incorporate the walker and the hearing aid in with the bull whip and six shooter.
UPDATE: Maybe he can team up with Rambo for a game of [...]

Slain Soldier’s Mom Rejected by Gold Star

By Marc • May 30th, 2005 • Category: For the Troops, In Other News...., the Ranter

I’m sorry, but this is just wrong! Wrong wrong wrong!
If it were my son who was killed and my wife (who is also Filipina BTW) who could not be accepted by Gold Star as the mother of a son who had sacrificed his life for the cause of freedom, well let’s just say I [...]

If Weird Al was Catholic….

By Marc • May 30th, 2005 • Category: the Church, the Weirdo

Nick Alexander is a wonderful musician, who has taken that talent and added a little humor to make some very strong Catholic music. What he does is similar to Weird Al, in that he takes hit songs and parodies them with a Catholic theme. For instance, he takes the song “Should I stay [...]

Never forget!

By Marc • May 30th, 2005 • Category: General

Today we remember those who have lost their lives in the service of this great country. These brave heroes should always be in our thought and our prayers, but especially on this day set aside to recall their sacrifice.
Special thanks to Eugene for making this picture public.
Eternal rest grant unto them oh [...]

Finnish Lutherans want to return home

By Marc • May 30th, 2005 • Category: the Church

It appears that some (if not all) Finnish Luthererans want to reconcile with the Catholic Church. Read the story here.
One interesting line from the article from Helsinki’s Lutheran Bishop Eero Huovinen:
After explaining that Martin Luther did not want to found a new church but simply renew it, the bishop said, “We Finnish Lutherans wish [...]

RIP - Eddie Albert

By Marc • May 29th, 2005 • Category: Pop Culture

He was a good man. He was a good actor. He was a war hero. He was a friend to those in need. He will be missed.

Google Sightseeing is soooo cool!

By Marc • May 29th, 2005 • Category: the Geek

I recently posted a link to Google Sightseeing’s overhead shot of the Hernando-Desoto bridge. Well, they keep finding all the cool stuff over there.
Corn mazes always kind of creeped me out. I reminded me too much of the Shining. I have to admit though. This one looks pretty cool from above.

‘Breakfast Club’ Cast to Reunite

By Marc • May 28th, 2005 • Category: Pop Culture, the Geek

This I would watch this in a heartbeat if it wasn’t on a channel I refuse to watch. I wonder if they’re going to do some kind of skit. I wonder if it’ll be funny or dramatic. On the other hand, they may just have the actors talking about making the movie….That [...]

John Ford Resigns After Arrest

By Marc • May 28th, 2005 • Category: River City, the Ranter

Get the story here.
All I can say is it’s about time. After all the Crazy stuff John’s pulled over the years, I am glad he is no longer a Tennessee State Senator. He actually flipped me the bird one day while driving next to me on Poplar back in Memphis. I am [...]

More Muslims kill more Christians

By Marc • May 28th, 2005 • Category: the Ranter

Read the story here.
What we don’t seem to understand is that this whole war on terror is a religious war. It’s not a war brought about by Christians, but a war brought about by Muslims. I’ve heard commentators and “experts” on the news channel state that they can’t figure out what the insurgents [...]

Orson Scott Card on Star Wars religion faith force

By Marc • May 26th, 2005 • Category: Marc, the Geek, the Weirdo

This is a very interesting essay written by one of my favorite Sci-Fi writers. He gets into the religious aspects of the “force”, the Jedi and the Sith.
I haven’t blogged about it yet, but I pretty much hated the new movie myself. More on that later. But I found this essay [...]

Church says the koran needs to be flushed

By Marc • May 26th, 2005 • Category: the Ranter

Church Marketing Sucks: Pastor Says Quran Should Be Flushed
I think protestant churches that just don’t get our Lord’s message need to start reading books (like the Bible) instead of flushing them.

Filipino Bishops use blogs

By Marc • May 26th, 2005 • Category: The Philippines, the Church

Since my wife is from the Philippines, I perked up a bit just about every Catholic blog I check out had something to say about this Zenit article about Filipino bishops blogging. Go check it out, it’s pretty cool.
Thanks for the heads up to Zadok the Roman. His was the first one I [...]

Claims About Al-Zarqawi Suggest Confusion

By Marc • May 26th, 2005 • Category: In Other News...., the Ranter

Yes, that’s the headline on this story. I’m just not sure what’s more important though, the confusion or the obvious power struggle that’s going on over there. This may be the beginning of the end for the insurgency. Only time will tell. Let’s hope and pray that it is.

Phone company tech support - a story of lies

By Marc • May 25th, 2005 • Category: the Weirdo

This is a pretty funny couple of lists here. I know I’ve had days like this with both Bell South and Time Warner Cable back in Memphis.

Lies Verizon DSL Support Has Told Me Today
Lies I Have Told Verizon DSL Support Today
It’s just proof that evil breeds evil. Calling a phone company’s tech support [...]

Why I’m glad they killed Kate

By Marc • May 25th, 2005 • Category: Pop Culture, the Geek

Don’t worry……I’m talking about a fictional character. I watch Navy NCIS pretty much every week and I’ve gotten to like the show and the characters. I’ve got some things I want to say about last night’s episode, but I must include a spoiler warning….

Shoutout to Bishop Terry

By Marc • May 25th, 2005 • Category: River City, the Church

It’s been almost three months since Suzette and I moved from Memphis to Nashville. While I love our new life in our new home city, I do miss the Church in Memphis. With Nashville being a vacant see, I still in my heart think of Bishop Terry as my bishop.
With that in mind [...]

Memphisflyer vs. White Press Office

By Marc • May 25th, 2005 • Category: the Ranter

Someone in the White House press corp was obviously trying to get Mr. McClellan to slip and say something he wasn’t supposed to say. The first questions answer contained the following phrase:
the protocols that were in place after September 11th were followed
What gets me is this is the answer to pretty much every question [...]

Liturgy Of The Hours

By Marc • May 24th, 2005 • Category: the Church

Jimmy Akin’s got a real good post by Fr. Stephanos, O.S.B. on the Liturgy of the Hours. If your Catholic and not familiar with the “other liturgy” of the Church, I highly recommend you read it. Lots of good information there.
Read it here.

House Votes to Kill More Babies

By Marc • May 24th, 2005 • Category: ProLife, the Church, the Ranter

I’ll have to again invoke my “No foul language” rule and pretty much just post the link here. Let’s just say that Marc’s not real happy about this.
Read the story here.
UPDATE: the Curt Jester has a very good post here with some words from Cardinal William H. Keeler and some excellent comments.
