OK….I probably should have done this when I firs saw it on Jimmy Aiken’s blog, but I didn’t. I was hoping it would just go away. But no! Patrick Gallagher had to go and do it too. So here goes….

1) Total number of books I own –
I say somewhere between 200-300. My wife says “millions”…

2) The last book I bought –

I am reading this right now. It’s really interesting the history of the “near east”, mostly Afghanistan. How the people we just knocked out of power there were some of the same people we supported indirectly in the fight against the Soviets. I also never knew the Embassy in Islamabad was stormed in a similar way to the Embassy in Tehran, just days later.

3) The last book I read was –
This:

From the “Master of alternate history” (insert cheesy music here), comes the story of what if the Japanese had followed up the attack on Pearl Harbor with an invasion of the Hawaiian Islands. It was really good, but it it was also just the start. This looks like it’s going to at least be another trilogy.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

4) Five books that mean a lot to me –
I’ll leave out the Bible, the Catechism and the four volumes of the LOTH.
So it’s these in no particular order:

 
 
 
This was the first religious book I read after reverting back to the Church. It really changed my life and gave me a strong love for the Carmelites.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

This completely changed the way I view the Mass. It also brought me to such an understanding of the Eucharist that I’ll never be same again.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

This book really touched my heart.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

I always found the socio-political aspects of the world Heinlein created in this book to be fascinating. Too bad the movie was so terrible. But, I do suggest the animated series that came out later. It’s much more true to the book. 
 
 
 
 
 

This book shows that Perl is not just a scripting language, it is its own little subculture.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

Now….I am hoping this will just die sometime soon. But, I have to put in the obligatory “blah, blah, blah….If you haven’t done it yet…do it!…..blah blah blah….”
