“book meme”-”book meme” - Will it ever go away???

By Marc • Jun 12th, 2005 • Category: Marc, the Geek, the Weirdo

OK….I probably should have done this when I firs saw it on Jimmy Aiken’s blog, but I didn’t. I was hoping it would just go away. But no! Patrick Gallagher had to go and do it too. So here goes….
1) Total number of books I own –
I say somewhere between 200-300. [...]

Trouble in the Philippines

By Marc • Jun 11th, 2005 • Category: The Philippines

There is yet another scandal involving Phillipine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. This is probably the closest she’s come to it being curtains for her administration though.
It never ceases to amaze me how easy it is for someone to buy or otherwise take the election of a national office. I know Gore tried it [...]

Fifteen men were ordained priests

By Marc • Jun 10th, 2005 • Category: the Church

That right, it really does say “15″.
More than 3,000 people squeezed into the Cathedral of St. Paul May 28, spilling into aisles and cramming into the choir loft, to witness history. Fifteen men were ordained priests for the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, the largest number in more than 40 years.
This is really good [...]

Local boy makes a funny…

By Marc • Jun 9th, 2005 • Category: River City

This is pretty cool. A guy went to Holy Rosary and CBHS is now doing stand up. I just hope it’s clean.
Check it out in the CA.

Nine women to defy Vatican to become priests

By Marc • Jun 8th, 2005 • Category: the Church, the Ranter

It just doesn’t make sense to me. I mean, what are they thinking? I guess I just don’t understand why if their Catholicism means so little to them that they would participate in this mock ordination, why they don’t just convert to Anglicanism and become a “priest” in that Church.
Patrick’s got the best [...]

Vatican anoints Sun software

By Marc • Jun 8th, 2005 • Category: the Church, the Geek

Well, it looks like the Vatican is switching to Sun. Of course I see this as complete justification for my recent job change in going from an HP shop to a Sun shop. Well, that and the fact that Suzette and I now live in a city we’re proud to call home.

Why I hated Star Wars 3….

By Marc • Jun 8th, 2005 • Category: Pop Culture, the Geek, the Ranter

OK…I mentioned it here before a few times. I wanted to give anyone who really cares a chance to see the movie first. Still, I will give a spoiler alert right now and require you to click on the link to read the whole post. Here goes nothing. Revenge of the [...]

Batman Begins stars signed for a second flick

By Marc • Jun 8th, 2005 • Category: Pop Culture, the Geek

It looks like Christian Bale and Gary Oldman have both been signed for a second Batman sequel. I am really hoping that Batman Begins isn’t a letdown. I don’t know if I can take another one after Revenge of the Sith.

Man With Stained Chain Saw Let in to U.S.

By Marc • Jun 8th, 2005 • Category: In Other News...., the Ranter

This is just kind of weird. I guess they have a point that being bizarre isn’t against the law, but shouldn’t the blood have said that something was very wrong here?
Also, this gets me…
Despres hitchhiked to the border crossing.
Oh, that looks like a nice man all covered in blood and carrying a [...]

Please pray for Daniel

By Marc • Jun 8th, 2005 • Category: Marc

Someone wrote in to a prayer email list I’m on. Her brother and sister and law, who have had a lot of trouble conceiving, have just lost their first child.
Thank you for prayers, the Lord decided to take baby Daniel a few hours
ago, but not before my brother and his wife could hold him, [...]

Touching story of a Dominican serial killer..

By Marc • Jun 7th, 2005 • Category: In Other News...., the Church

Read the story here. It’s always touching to hear of someone who has sunk so far in the pit of sin and depravity and pull themselves out of it. Michael Ross brutally murdered eight women. Those eight women who suffered at his hands should never be forgotten. They should always [...]

Star Wars Empire not so evil….NOT!

By Marc • Jun 7th, 2005 • Category: Pop Culture, the Geek, the Ranter

Yeah, this is an entertaining article on how the rebels were the evil ones and the empire wasn’t so evil. But, it’s got a few problems…..
First of all, author seems to have forgotten it’s a movie. It is fiction you know. That’s spelled F-I-C-T-I-O-N.
When the rebels encounter the Imperial scouts on their [...]

One of the best interviews I’ve ever read…

By Marc • Jun 7th, 2005 • Category: Pop Culture, the Weirdo

This blog post is one of the best I’ve ever seen.
James: So, in the last six months, there have been 37 pairings in the Times of the word “Christian” with words like “scary”, “frightening”, “theocratic” and “intimidating”. My question is, what is it about Christians that makes you so scary?
Barb: (loud, snorting and sneering laughter) [...]

Did everyone forget what today is???

By Marc • Jun 6th, 2005 • Category: For the Troops, the Ranter

I just got home a little while ago. It’s about 10pm. I’ve had a very busy day and haven’t had much time to blog, much less check what’s happening in the blogosphere. I check my RSS feeds. Of all the feeds I subscribe to, including a number of news sites, only [...]

Charlotte Church’s Potty At Pope

By Marc • Jun 6th, 2005 • Category: Pop Culture, The Pope is Dope, the Church

OK. I know the kids just love these Harry Potter books. Personally, I have seen the first movie, but I haven’t read any of the book. I don’t really see anything wrong with them. We just need to make our children understand that it’s fiction. That the magic portrayed [...]

Just another day in the life of the Episcopal Church.

Wireless mouse….

By Marc • Jun 5th, 2005 • Category: the Geek

Excuse me…..It’s not just a wireless mouse, it’s also a battery-less mouse too!
Take a look at the review of it here.
That’s really cool. I wonder if they make a Mac version.

Secretary Didn’t Burn John Paul’s Notes

By Marc • Jun 5th, 2005 • Category: the Church

I’m not really sure how I feel about this.
“Nothing has been burned,” Dziwisz said. “Nothing is fit for burning, everything should be preserved and kept for history, for the future generations - every single sentence.”
In a March 1979 entry to his testament, John Paul said he left no material property and asked that Dziwisz burn [...]

Ellison vs. Spielberg

By Marc • Jun 3rd, 2005 • Category: Pop Culture, the Geek

Harlan Ellison is so cool sometimes…. Sci-Fi Wire has a little article where he basically goes off on Steven Spielberg
for not giving props to H. G. Wells for the new War of the Worlds movie.
You tell ‘em Mr. Ellison!
My favorite line:
“Spielberg is only a craftsman, that’s all he is,” Ellison said. “He’s not [...]

Weapons Equipment Missing in Iraq

By Marc • Jun 3rd, 2005 • Category: In Other News...., the Ranter

Read the story here.
He said the missing material can be used for legitimate purposes. “However, they can also be utilized for prohibited purposes if in a good state of repair.”
UM….Hello! I thought part of the argument that there were no weapons of mass destruction was also that there was capability to produce such weapons. [...]
