Car Allowances for Memphis City School Officials

By • Nov 25th, 2005 • Category: River City, the Ranter

MEMPHIS – They’re riding on your dime. Every month, Memphis City School board members and a long list of school officials get a car allowance.

One of them is city school Chief Operating Officer Michael Goar. “We travel quite a bit, to buildings, visit buildings, make sure buildings are up to par,” says Goar.

And that my friends is a perfect example of the kind of things that drove me away from Memphis. There is so much corruption and graft in that city it is not funny. I just could not support it anymore. Nashville is much nicer. So to put it simply, they’re not doing it on my dime. I made sure of that….

But in a time of school closings and major cutbacks even board members who think it’s fair aren’t taking the allowance. “The reason I don’t apply for it so I can stand up here and tell you it’s fair business practice and i just happen not to take it so i can say that to you,” says school board member Jeff Warren.

Oh yes. That makes complete sense Mr. Warren. It’s so fair and we have such the resources to provide it that I’m not taking it. Is that what you’re saying?

No wonder there are so many ignorant people in Memphis. So much of the money for their education is going into some bureaucrats gas tank. I personally had a lot of catching up to do after graduating from a Memphis City High School. I wish I had just stayed in private schools…..
