An answer to that age old argument

By • Dec 20th, 2005 • Category: the Weirdo

I always hear that married couples argue over the toilet seat. The woman says the man should put it down when he’s finished because she might miss it being up and fall in the next time she uses it. The man says the woman should put it down before she starts because he might miss it being down and…well…you know….”miss”.. It’s never been an issue here in our home. I put it up before I start and Suzette puts it down before she starts. That’s what we call “compromise”. But, if the folks living in a household are just too bullheaded for this to work, can I suggest something? How about both parties putting the seat and lid down when they are finished? This will require work form both parties. The woman can’t say she’ll fall in if she fails to notice it, because she’ll just end up sitting on the lid. The man will not be able to say he didn’t notice the seat was down, because how can you miss the lid being down? Plus, a toilet is nasty anyway, why would you not want to keep it closed? It’s for this reason that I’ve tried to start closing it myself. Besides, if the lids closed then the alligators can’t come out from the sewer….

  1. Marc,

If you and Suzette plan on having children, this habit of leaving the lid down that you are trying to form will serve you well. Having the seat down at all times keeps curious tots from trying to experiment on how many different things can fit into a toilet…. and that can be a LOT if they try!!

    Have a happy day!

    Kathy
